Top Ten Tips in writing an effective Press Release...
Not sure where to start? Here are some pointers for a
successful press release:-
1. Always draft your Press Release in a true type font (i.e. Arial
or Times Roman).
2. Use line spacing of 1.5 or 2 and number the pages.
3. Try to keep to two pages in total.
4. Always date your Press Release or mark it “FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE”.
5. Make the title of your Press Release as eye catching as
possible.
6. Start with a brief description of the news and then distinguish
who announced it: not the other way round.
7. Keep the body of your Press Release factual and try to avoid
any ‘fancy’ language.
8. Always include a ‘Notes for Editors’ section at the end of your
Press Release. This should provide additional information about
your business, including all relevant contact details.
9. Include a relevant colour photograph if possible (in .jpg
format if emailing): e.g. a key person or place associated with
your Press Release.
10. Be prepared to send your Press Release to local media and your
trade media by email and fax. Take the time to find out the
relevant person's name and address your 'Press Release' to them personally.
